Advanced Diploma of Leadership & Management Without a Diploma?

Illustrative example: names and details in the case story below are representative and do not describe a real person.
The quick answer
Yes, you can do an Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (BSB60420) without a Diploma. Entry is open to people who either have completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB Training Package, or have two years' equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience in an operational or leadership role in an enterprise. If you have been managing people or operations for two years or more, you may already meet the requirement.
Qualification: BSB60420 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management, AQF level 6
Entry option 1: A completed Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB Training Package
Entry option 2: Two years' equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience in an operational or leadership role
At S2C: 10 units, indicative 24 months online, or RPL
The entry requirements in plain English
The training package sets two alternative ways in. You need to meet one, not both.
• A prior BSB Diploma or Advanced Diploma. Any completed Diploma or Advanced Diploma from the BSB (Business Services) Training Package counts, including current or superseded versions. For example, the Diploma of Project Management (BSB50820) is a BSB Diploma.
• Two years' relevant experience. Two years of equivalent full-time work in an operational or leadership role in an enterprise. Because it is measured as full-time equivalent, part-time experience can count towards it; a course advisor will confirm how yours adds up.
For how the qualification levels compare, see Diploma vs Advanced Diploma vs Graduate Diploma.
What counts as operational or leadership experience?
The experience needs to be relevant to managing people or operations. Examples that commonly fit include:
• supervising or leading a team, crew, shift or section
• managing a function, site, store, department or program
• running operations, logistics, scheduling or resources
• leading projects with responsibility for people and outcomes
• leadership roles in defence, policing, emergency services or health, where you directed people and resources
You will be asked to show evidence, such as position descriptions, a résumé, references or a statement of service. If you are unsure whether your experience fits, a course advisor can check it with you before you enrol. If you are coming from service, see Leadership skills gained through military service.
What the Advanced Diploma covers
The qualification reflects the role of experienced managers responsible for strategic direction, leading people, managing resources and driving organisational performance. Across ten units you develop capability in developing and implementing business plans, managing organisational finances, providing leadership across the organisation, leading organisational change, managing innovation and continuous improvement, and communicating with influence. It supports roles such as Senior Manager, Operations Manager, Department or Business Unit Manager, and Regional or Area Manager.
Online study or RPL
At S2C Training the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management is studied online with trainer support and scheduled online tutorials, with assessment using your workplace or a simulated workplace. The indicative duration is 24 months. If you have been leading at this level for some time, Recognition of Prior Learning may recognise that experience instead. See Online study or RPL: which is faster for an Advanced Diploma?
The Advanced Diploma of Business (BSB60120) has the same entry requirements, if your experience is broader business management rather than people leadership.
