Course Outline
CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, commonly referred to as the White Card, is the nationally recognised training required for individuals who need to access or perform work on a construction site. The course provides the foundational workplace health and safety knowledge necessary to work safely within the construction industry and is a mandatory requirement for workers, supervisors, managers, and site visitors performing construction-related activities.
Participants develop an understanding of construction site hazards, risk management processes, workplace health and safety responsibilities, and safe work practices. The course focuses on recognising common construction risks, following site safety procedures, responding to incidents, and contributing to a safe work environment. Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit and are eligible to apply for a Queensland general construction induction card (White Card) through the relevant Queensland authority. Under national mutual recognition arrangements, a valid Queensland White Card is generally accepted in other states and territories. Recognition is subject to each jurisdiction's requirements - for example, a card is generally not recognised if the holder has not carried out construction work for more than two years. If you need a replacement or intend to work interstate, you should confirm current requirements with the relevant state or territory WHS regulator

What This Card Lets You Do
The White Card (formally CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry) is the mandatory general construction induction required before you can enter or work on a construction site. Under Queensland law, anyone carrying out construction work must hold this card, and general construction induction is a site entry requirement for construction sites across Australia. It applies to workers, supervisors, managers, and anyone who needs unaccompanied access to a construction site.
Recognised Across Australia
Although it is issued in Queensland, the White Card is recognised in every state and territory. Queensland general construction induction cards are accepted throughout Australia, and all states and territories recognise each other’s cards. A card obtained through S2C in Queensland can therefore be used to access construction sites nationally.
Who This Course Suits
This course suits new entrants to construction, apprentices and trainees, trades and labourers, site supervisors and managers, and anyone - including delivery drivers, surveyors, or site visitors who needs unsupervised access to a construction site. There are no formal entry requirements.
How It’s Delivered and Assessed
This course is delivered face-to-face only. Queensland regulations require the CPCWHS1001 unit to be delivered through in-person training - it cannot be completed online. Training includes a practical component and a mandatory assessment, which must be completed successfully to be deemed competent.
Receiving Your White Card
On successful completion, S2C Training (RTO 45605) issues your White Card. Keep it with you whenever you are on site, and retain a record of your card details and issuing RTO in case you need a replacement. The card becomes invalid if you do not carry out construction work for two consecutive years.
USI & Certification
To receive a Statement of Attainment, students must have a verified Unique Student Identifier (USI), unless exempt. Certification documentation will be issued within 30 calendar days of being assessed as competent and any outstanding fees being paid.
Learner Support & Reasonable Adjustment
Students have access to trainer support throughout the course. S2C Training provides reasonable adjustment where appropriate to support individual learner needs while maintaining the integrity of the training and assessment requirements. As this course is delivered and assessed in person, please discuss any support needs with us before your scheduled session.
Credit Transfer
As a single-unit induction with a mandatory face-to-face assessment, this course is generally completed in full. If you already hold a current White Card or equivalent general construction induction, contact us before enrolling to confirm whether you need to repeat the training.
Transition Arrangements
Where a qualification is superseded, deleted, or substantially amended, S2C Training will manage student transitions in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and organisational policies and will advise students of any available options.
